An impressive monumental patinated bronze wall fountain, standing 195 cm (77 inches) in height. The waisted backplate is richly ornamented with scrolling acanthus foliage and elegant C-scrolls, centred by a finely modelled bearded mask of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. Above, a seated cherub bearing a floral garland crowns the composition.
The shaped basin below is similarly decorated with bold acanthus scrollwork and centred by a lion’s mask. Flanking the reservoir are two gracefully modelled Nereids, each cradling a fish, emblematic of the abundance and riches of the sea.
A striking architectural feature of exceptional scale, this fountain would make an outstanding focal point in a formal garden, courtyard, orangery, or grand interior.
