The arched rail corona with green painted trailing leafy branches with porcelain flowers. The six sides with curved glass panels within shell cast frames and hung with faceted drops. Enclosing a suspended six-light candelabrum. Fitted for electricity.

This large and supremely decorative lantern originates from designs by Jacques Caffiéri supplied in the 1740s to the royal palaces of Versailles and Fontainebleau. Its clear antecedent is the monumental lantern with flowers in the Pavillon Français at Versailles.

The pavilion in the garden of the Petit Trianon was built for King Louis XV and his mistress Madame de Pompadour and intended for card games and concerts. The lantern, designed in the rococo style with shells and scrolls entwined with flowers, captures the pittoresque style, perfect for setting a scene of pleasure and playfulness.
