A Fine Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Mahogany And Lacquer Commode à Vantaux, After The Model By Weisweiler, By Hubert-Joseph Heubès.

This elegant mahogany commode is surmounted by a brocatelle jaune d'Espagne marble top. The central door is inset with a fine Japanese gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e lacquer panel on a black ground, depicting buildings in a stylised landscape by the shore, with wading cranes.

The cabinet maker Heubes exhibited at the Paris 1867 Exposition Universelle and was recorded as specialising in furniture mounted with brass inlay in the Boulle maurquetry style and cabinets mounted with porcelain.
