A Fine Napoléon III Gilt-Bronze Mounted and Sèvres Style Porcelain-Inset Onyx Guéridon.
The circular top inset with a large circular porcelain plaque painted with Madame de Pompadour in her study signed ‘(AM)P. Juéry’ within gilt bronze border. Surrounded by nine smaller oval portraits of noble ladies, each titled beneath. On a cylindrical onyx column mounted within three large acanthus scrolls united by floral swags raised on tripartite base with inset guilloche frieze, raised on castors.
The painted porcelain roundel of Madame de Pompadour in her Study is after a pastel by Maurice Quentin de La Tour (1704–1788) which hangs in the Louvre Museum, Paris (INV 27614).
Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour (1721 –1764), commonly known as Madame de Pompadour, was a member of the French court. She was the official chief mistress of King Louis XV from 1745 to 1751. On this table she is surrounded by oval portrait medallions of luminary ladies of the period and members of Louis XV’s circle, including his queen Marie Leszczyńska, the mathematician Émilie du Châtelet, the Marquise de Créquy, Madame de Mouchy, Princess de Lamballe and the king’s last mistress, Madame du Barry.
