Description

A Late Nineteenth Century Louis XIV Style Patinated Bronze Jardinière ‘Aux Amours Ailés Accoudés’ After the Model by Duval at Versailles.

The design for this charming jardinière is based on the famous bronze vases believed to have been cast by Pierre Duval Le Camus (1790-1854) from designs by Louis XIV goldsmith Claude Ballin, which remain today separating the Parterre du Nord from the Parterre d ‘Eau at Versailles.

Copies in bronze were made for the Bagatelle in the Bois du Bologne, the estate of the Fourth Marquess of Hertford 1800-1860, who, through his friendship with Napolean III was allowed to make bronze copies of the originals. These were also copied by the Val D ‘Osne foundry and appear in their late 19th century catalogue as a plate 112.

French, Circa 1870.
