Description
A Fine Pair of Patinated Bronze Figures of River Nymphs, After Jean Goujon.
One figure inscribed on the base ‘Jean Goujon’.
Each figure is finely cast as a reclining Nerid with an urn issuing water, on naturalistic bases, with rich brown patination.
These charming figures are inspired by the nymphs on the monumental ‘Fontaine des Innocents’ in Paris. Originally called the ‘Fountain of the Nymphs’, it was constructed between 1547 and 1550 by architect Pierre Lescot and sculptor Jean Goujon (1510-1566).
