description

An Impressive Empire Revival Gilt-Bronze Mounted Mahogany Two-Tier Buffet.

Of superb quality this fine buffet has a rectangular shaped marble top with a frieze containing two drawers supported on exceptional winged sphinx supports above an open section with a corresponding marble top and panelled back, below are two pairs of cupboard doors with panelled sides and the whole raised on exuberant gilt paw feet.

With finely chosen mahogany veneers, elaborate gilt-bronze mounts and exceptional carved sphinx supports, this substantial yet refined buffet is a good example of the ambition and quality of furniture production in Paris in the second half of the 19th century.

French, Circa 1870.
