description

This unusual pair of Sèvres-Style jardinières are each of square section inset with finely painted porcelain panels, depicting floral sprays and genre scenes in the manner of Boucher. The gilt-bronze mounts are finely cast with scrolling rocaille decoration, surmounted by bird finials and terminating in dolphin cast feet. The jardinières retain their original liners.

A closely related pair of jardinières with comparative gilt-bronze mounts. but lacquer rather than porcelain panels, were acquired at auction at Oxenhams in 1836 by the Regency collector George Byng for Wrotham Park, Hertfordshire.
