description
A Very Good Louis XV Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Parquetry Inlaid Bibliothèque.
This fine Bibliothèque is of superb quality with wonderful gilt-bronze mounts and is of excellent proportions. The bibliothèque has a moulded fleur de pècher marble top, above an arched parquetry frieze centred by a finely cast gilt-bronze Bacchic mask above a bevelled glass door opening to seven adjustable shelves.
The central door is flanked by a pair of glazed grillé doors; each door inset to the lower section with panels of parquetry inlay embellished with a Bacchic mask to the centre and acanthus and bell-husk mounts to the sides.
The angles of the bibliothèque are mounted with very fine gilt-bronze figural mounts with feathered headresses, in the manner of Charles Cressent, and the whole is raised on splayed legs with lion paw and acanthus feet.
