Description

An Elaborate Chippendale Revival Mahogany and Floral Marquetry Three-Train Musical Longcase Clock With Westminster and Whittington Chimes.

This impressive clock had a complicated eight day, three train movement, chiming on the quarter hours on eight tubular bells with the hours striking on the ninth tube. The clock plays Westminster and Whittington Chimes.

The brass arched dial has a silvered chapter ring and Arabic Numerals enclosing a subsidiary seconds dial to the centre. The arch has three subsidiary dials, ‘Strike/Silent’, ‘Chime/Silent’, ‘Whittington/Westminster’, within pierced scrolling spandrels.

The elaborate Chippendale style case has an arched hood surmounted by an acanthus carved and marquetry inlaid cresting over pierced side frets. The glazed trunk door is overlaid with carved lattice and scrolls, and flanked by scrolling acanthus uprights and cartouche form glazed sides. The trunk is raised on a canted plinth with blind fret uprights and centred by a finely inlaid marquetry floral basket above a shaped apron and plinth feet.

This impressive longcase clock retains its three original weights and pendulum.
