François Linke, Léon Messagé &
the Exposition Universelle Paris 1900

Thursday, 4 June 2009 - Sunday, 14 June 2009

For the first time in over 100 years the key pieces from François Linke’s ground-breaking and award winning 1900 Exhibition stand will be re-united in a setting that pays homage to his original stand. These pieces will be displayed alongside other Exhibition and museum quality items that we are offering fresh to the market. This is the most important collection we have ever put together.

Included in the Exhibition will be La Grande Bibliothèque – the Bibliothèque dominated Linke’s 1900 stand and was undoubtedly the chef d'oeuvre of its maker, and one of the most important pieces of furniture ever to be made. Christopher Payne certainly believes that this is ‘one of the largest pieces ever recorded in the history of world furniture’. Also displayed will be the Grand Bureau, which won Linke the coveted gold medal at the Exposition in 1900.

Such is the importance of this collection that the owners of the privately held Linke Archive are collaborating with us to lend a number of historically significant items from the Archive. These will not only relate to the pieces on display but give a broader appreciation of Linke’s workshop practices. These items have never previously been displayed in public and most likely never will again.

This unique exhibition will aim to tell the story of Linke’s greatest achievement and reveal the genius of the Master behind the Masterpieces.
